The National Center for Human Rights and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty kick off campaign on the NGO law

In their attempt to mobilize grassroots organizations in Jordan as advocates for a modern law, the FNF and its partner organization NCHR will launch a campaign entitled: “Towards Effective and Influential Associations.”

The campaign, which will kick off on 31 March 2009 in Jarash, will eventually reach distant and remote areas of Jordan.

The total number of registered NGOs in the Jarash province is 27.  Two representatives from each association will attend the meeting to be held at the Jarash General Union of Voluntary Societies.

The workshop will:

- Introduce international standards for freedom of association

- Discuss the newly government-endorsed law

- Discuss its impact on the effectiveness of associations

- Present a code of conduct for the NGO sector in Jordan.

Special concerns related to NGOs operating in Jarash are to be raised in an interactive session designed to serve as a platform for NGOs to voice their concerns and the difficulties they face in the province.

Another event, within the framework of the same campaign, will be held in Aqaba, on the 7th of April 2009.
